Frequently asked questions

How often do Vandas bloom and how long do the flowers last?

Vanda orchids bloom 1 to 3 times per year. The flowers are very strong and retain their beauty for about 6 to 8 weeks.

When is the best time to water the Vanda?

It is best to water the Vanda in the morning. Allow the roots to dry out during the night to avoid them being wet for too long.

How do I care for the plant after flowering?

Remove the old shoot. The Vanda needs a great deal of light if it is to flower again. Be careful with direct sunlight, the plant can be burnt by this. The best place for a Vanda is by sunny window. Never stop watering.

Do Vandas need a humid environment??

Just like other orchid varieties, Vandas need a humid environment and therefore enjoy being sprayed with water on a regular basis.

Why is the Vanda more expensive that most other orchids?

It takes about 6 years before a Vanda is fully grown and can flower. For the first five years they are grown in Thailand and they are then transported to the Netherlands by plane. They then continue to grow for a further year before they can be sold.
